It’s very unlikely. Installing new windows is considered to be a “permitted development,” which means they can be fitted without planning permission. There are sometimes exceptions for Listed buildings, or homes in conservation areas, and if this applies to you we’d recommend checking with your local authority before starting a project. However, we rarely encounter scenarios where getting replacement casement windows are entirely forbidden.

Our casement windows are constructed with high quality uPVC, making them inherently durable. You can expect your new casement windows to last several decades, with an average lifespan of 35 years.

There are a few obvious signs when a window needs replacing like cracked frames, but there are a couple of other smaller things to look out for. For example, noticing a draught around your window could be a sign that the weather seal has been compromised. Condensation between the panes of glass is another, along with increased noise from outside and difficulty operating them.

We’d also recommend keeping an eye on your energy bills. If they start to creep up over time, it could be because your windows are no longer as efficient and you’re having to use your central heating or air conditioning systems more often. There can be other reasons for this such as price increases by your energy supplier, but it can be an early sign that your windows are failing and need to be replaced. Wood has been used to make windows for centuries but while it does have its advantages, it also has drawbacks. Timber windows are more prone to water damage and can swell or warp, especially when exposed to unpredictable weather conditions.
